The advantages of installing presses using gantry hoists are:
– The use of gantry hoists solves the problem not only of vertical but also of horizontal movement of equipment in two mutually perpendicular vectors, which is impossible to do with erection-type masts;
– A high degree of safety of installation and rigging works, unlike erection masts;
– Advantages in weight, when the mass of the gantries for the vertical volume of equipment and press installation is lower than the mass of erection masts for the same requirements for assembling large-tonnage products.The disadvantages of such structures are considered to be the following points in operation:
- Their more complicated installation and dismantling compared to erection masts;
- The enlargement and complexity of the structure due to the use of additional masts and anchors, requiring a full cycle of installation and dismantling works;
- The linear height values of the hoists are greater than the height of the equipment being lifted, which significantly complicates (and in some cases makes inadvisable) the dismantling and moving of tall equipment;
- Force calculations are carried out in a similar manner;
- When installing on an elevated frame, it is necessary to provide guy bracing for the supporting structural elements, which causes an increase in loads in the mechanism's tooling.
