This installation and technological documentation contains a detailed description of the individual operation and is used in the development of the Work Project, the Construction Works Organization Project and any used in the installation of technological documentation.To compile a technological map, production volumes at a specific stage of installation, assembly conditions, material estimates, schedules containing the initial and final dates, delivery time of components and specific works are specified.
The technological map calculates the output per worker, the cost of materials and resources per shift or per day, provides a scheme of workplaces, a technological process broken down by the time of operations.
Drawing up such a map will help to keep records and monitor the correctness of the work.

Usually, when supplying industrial equipment, the manufacturer provides drawings and installation instructions. If the conditions of work are not compatible with the instructions, technological maps are compiled for the installation of individual units or for particularly complex stages.
Technological maps contain the following information:- Name and description of the machine or operation;
- The number of installation blocks or units, the volume of work;
- Calculation of labour intensity and estimate;
- The number of required employees, the composition of brigades;
- Duration of production of works;
- Technological approach to installation of complex components, structures, parts of equipment or pipelines;
- Possibility of manual labor mechanization;
- The list of rigging and installation equipment, types of slings, cargo-grabbing mechanisms;
- Schemes and options for slinging parts of equipment, sections and nodes of pipelines;
- The used lifting mechanisms, their characteristics;
- List of lifted cargo with indication of weight;
- Scheme of the location of the rigger and slinger.
The technological map necessarily indicates the requirements for the safety of assembly work.

Technological maps for the installation of pipelines are compiled depending on its characteristics and purpose. The assembly of almost any pipeline is a technologically complex process that requires taking into account specific conditions. For many pipeline installation operations, standard technological maps have been developed and used, for others a unique document is being developed.
In the technological map, in addition to general for installation of equipment, the following information is indicated:
- Operational sequence of assembly;
- If one operation is performed several times, its frequency is indicated;
- Calculation of time for each operation during installation of pipelines;
- List of necessary tools and equipment;
- Requirements for the use of various compensators;
- Means for fixing pipes;
- Methods of connecting pipes and fittings.
Technological maps for pipelines made of different materials are different. Separately, technological maps are being developed for connecting pipelines, installation, laying, mounting.
