In the broad sense of the word, a rectification column is a vertical cylindrical thin-walled vessel of variable or permanent section, having inside a certain set of mass and heat exchangers designed to separate liquid mixtures into fractions. In industry, there are discrete and nozzle distillation columns. By the type of technological process, the columns are divided into atmospheric (when the pressure in the upper part is close to atmospheric) and vacuum (pressure is noticeably lower than atmospheric).

Compact rectification columns are actively used in laboratories and in experimental production, but their main application they found in industry: oil refining, petrochemical, chemical, gas and food (brewing and production of alcohols from organic raw materials).

Installation of rectification columns

Specificity and dimensions of industrial rectification columns impose increased responsibility on the preparatory stage of installation, dismantling and rigging of rectification columns. In order to avoid unwanted problems and unforeseen costs in the future, it is necessary at the initial stage to study the product passport in detail, make sure the quality of the unit, the absence of damage during transportation, as well as during storage and immediately before installation. No less attention is paid to the study of the architectural layout of an industrial building in which it is planned to carry out works on the installation or dismantling of a rectification column, collecting information on available capacities and measures necessary for the work, as well as drawing up executive documentation for the installation of columns or RPR for the installation of columns. Only after the parties have signed an exhaustive package of documents can the installation, dismantling or movement of rectification columns begin.

 

Transportation and movement of rectification columns

Due to the significant weight and dimensions of the rectification columns in any manipulation require a delicate attitude. Installation and dismantling of columns should be carried out in strict accordance with the provisions specified in the technical documentation of the manufacturer, the project of equipment placement, RWP and a number of normative documents.

Rectification columns can arrive at the construction site both in full factory readiness, canned, and individual elements (assembly elements – tsargas). Special attention is paid by the specialists of our company to the stage of transportation of columns or their parts from the territory of the manufacturer to the installation site. This process is divided into several technological stages: the delivery of equipment by the plant, loading on transport, unloading and temporary storage until the final installation of the columns in the glasses of foundations. During each stage, the condition of the equipment is monitored for no damage, the completion of work is recorded by acts with the mandatory signatures of specialists from both the handing over and the receiving party. Storage of rectification columns immediately before their installation is carried out exclusively on a concrete or any other flat area, excluding the possibility of sagging (and as a result – damage) of the column body.

 

Installation and testing

Installation of columns and subsequent tests are carried out in strict accordance with GOST R 54892-2012 “Installation of air separation installations” And other cryogenic equipment.” The deviation of the body of the columns (for units with a diameter of not more than 1 meter and a height of not more than 8 meters) vertically should not exceed 2 mm for each meter of height, but in total not more than 5 mm. For columns more than 8 metres high, the cumulative deviation from the reference position shall not exceed 10 mm. Such indicators can be provided by constant geodetic control.

The strength, density and quality of the joints of the fracking columns, as well as the supply and drain pipelines are checked by pneumatic and hydraulic tests with a certain algorithm, during which weak points of the structure are identified and measures are taken to strengthen them. The completion of the test procedure is formalized by acts.

Taking into account the weight and size parameters of industrial rectification columns and the specifics of the processes occurring in them, special attention is paid even before installing these units to the installation of the foundation for them, which is made of reinforced concrete of high grades with mandatory control of the geometry of the fixing points of the rectification columns. If the object already has a foundation for an industrial rectification column, or if the work on its construction was performed by another organization, the specialists of Sintez TMK will perform a set of works on its verification, acceptance, if necessary, will perform geodetic control of the planned and high-altitude position, laboratory studies of the foundation material for compliance with the declared strength characteristics.

Installation and dismantling of rectification columns is carried out both on free sites and in operating production conditions, using special mechanization equipment for the installation of columns, stationary bridge cranes and GMP, heavy construction cranes with a large boom.
